Introduction Welcome to Conquest! This is a strategy game similar to RISK, and other 'Conquer the World' type games. It has many options to make the game more interesting, but you may want to wait until after you have played a few games before you try them. One of my design objectives was to create a simple user interface which removes unnecessary keystrokes, and leaves as much room on the screen as possible for the game map. As a result, EGA and a mouse or trackball are required to play Conquest. For information on how to play the game, either run the game and use the built in help screens, or read the file 'Guide.doc.' Write me a note if I can be of help. Features of Conquest Version 1.7: 1. Conquest now can be played with a modem to link your computer to another computer. This makes the option 'Hide non-adjacent territories' even more fun, because your human opponent can not see all of the map (and neither can you). However, you each will see a different portion of it. This is a BETA test version of the modem to modem feature. What that means is that the modem to modem option has not be tested as well as the other options. So if you have a problem, please let me know what it is, and when it happened so I can fix it. 2. A demonstration mode has been added which functions as a screen saver. If you do not hit a key or move the mouse within three minutes at the opening menu, a random map will be selected with random computer players. At high speed, the demo mode is interesting to watch. 3. New computer opponent logic has been incorporated, making them even harder to beat. They tend to band together more against the strongest player. 4. The territory numbers are now black instead of darkgray for easier visability. 5. Player attributes (name, color, type, etc) can be changed during the game (if it is not that player's turn). So, if you are really winning a lot, start a game, and then switch sides half way through. 6. Hot keys have been added to save time. The first six items in the options menu can be directly accessed by pressing F1 through F6 in order. 7. At the end of the game, player statistics are automatically shown. 8. The place army menu scrolls both forward and backwards. So, if you have 38 armies for example and you only want to place 1 of them on a territory, just press 'PLUS' and the counter will go from 38 to 1, etc. 9. Because I have changed the game algorithms, you will not be able to load games saved from older versions of Conquest (but you can still use any map ever created for Conquest). 10. Please give me feedback on version 1.7. I have made a lot of changes, and I want to be sure they are for the better! David Burns CIS: 70244,3650 4 March 92
